A Royal Commission: Photographing HRH Prince William at the College of Paramedics Conference

There are moments in a photographer's career that reaffirm why we do what we do. This year, I had the immense honor of being commissioned to photograph the College of Paramedics' annual conference in Birmingham, where HRH Prince William was announced as their Patron. It was an experience I'll never forget, and one that tested both my skills and my ability to keep a secret—not even my husband knew until after the event!

The Assignment:

When I first received the message about this assignment, I was both thrilled and proud. This wasn't just any event; it was one with profound significance, attended by paramedics who dedicate their lives to saving others and with HRH Prince William as the guest of honor, the stakes couldn't have been higher.

Security and Preparation:

In the months leading my security was checked and on the day itself, I was briefed by Kensington Palace about where I could stand, what I could photograph, and how to ensure everything ran smoothly. It was a masterclass in preparation and precision, something I thrive on in my work.

The Day of the Event:

I worked closely with press agencies and royal photographers, ensuring my work complemented the broader coverage of the day. Capturing HRH Prince William's interactions with the paramedics and his heartfelt speech was a privilege, and knowing these moments would be part of history made it all the more special.

Reflections:

This experience reaffirmed the importance of trust, professionalism, and adaptability in my craft. Being entrusted with such a high-profile assignment is not just about technical skill; it's about delivering with integrity and respect for the story being told.

I am so grateful to the College of Paramedics for trusting me with this monumental event and to Kensington Palace for their guidance and professionalism. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do—capturing stories that matter and moments that resonate.
